First printing of the true first edition - published in the UK in 1987. There was no equivalent US edition. The last work to be published by Raymond Carver before his untimely death the following year. Poems selected by the author. ***Near fine in blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still nice and bright. The boards are clean and unmarked. Head and tail of spine slightly creased, with a light vertical reading crease to the spine. Corners sharp. Edges of text-block have a few handling marks. Internally the book is also near fine, with no inscriptions. No other marks or annotations. No creases or tears. Printed on nice quality thick paper. Spine tight. ***In a very good colour-printed typographical dustwrapper, which retains the original publisher's printed price of £11.50 net. The dustwrapper is complete with no chips or tears, just some minimal rubbing and creasing at the edges, with a small nick to the bottom edge of the back panel. The dustwrapper is marked from handling, particularly on the back panel [being a pale cream background] but unfaded even on the spine. ***206 pages. 221 mm x 142 mm. ***'Raymond Carver is a brilliant exponent of the short story.
