Jan Fearnley, the youngest of six children, grew up near Newcastle, on the north coast of England. From an early age she recognized the power of books and often stayed at home to draw while the rest of the gang went out to play. Before becoming an author and illustrator, she studied graphic design and worked as a teacher, a job that provided her with much inspiration for her books, the best known of which is the internationally acclaimed Mr. Wolf's Pancakes. Jan now lives in London with her husband, Paul, and their two cats, whose hobbies include walking across wet artwork and chatting on the phone to publishers.
