Críticas:
Any would-be sailor embarking on this nautical route will benefit greatly from experiences, both good and bad, encountered by the author. Hairy moments with fog and large barges on the mighty river Rhine, along with strong currents, huge waves and massive locks, test the skipper's maritime skills to the limit. Finding somewhere suitable to berth, endless documentation requiring an official stamp from local customs officers (limited English spoken) and their often incompetent police counterparts are a regular occurrence. Time-wasting bureaucratic practices, however, are quickly overlooked when a bottle of whiskey is produced. Surprisingly, we learn little about Brown's on-board life and even less about his relationship with the crew. All appear to work together and contribute to a successful voyage. Included in a series of appendices are details of the ship's log and list of yacht havens, hotels and restaurants used en route. The book, which is well-written, has an attractive cover, plus a section of coloured photographs. A good read and well worth the cover price. --The Self Publishing Magazine
Reseña del editor:
This is the account of a memorable voyage undertaken by the author and his friend and First Officer , Anto, from the Netherlands, through inland Europe, and out to Istanbul in Turkey, by river. Portraying the Danube as a C road compared with the motorway of the mighty Rhine, the author describes his entertaining, exhilarating and at times plain hairy trip up the Rhine and down the Danube . The trip, which took two and a half years, although actual travelling time was only sixty-seven days, saw them travel 3,750 kilometres, during which time they went through ninety-four locks. They took in Holland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Romania before eventually ending up at their final destination, Istanbul, in Turkey. On their travels they had to contend with gales, fog and rain, strict and bribe-hungry officials, barges that dwarfed the tiny Dutch cruiser, not to mention the strong currents, high waves and massive locks along the way. Arriving in Istanbul in one piece (despite a smoking engine), the author completed the voyage of a lifetime, and this is his story.. NOTA: El libro no está en español, sino en inglés.
