The cover edges, spine joints and spine ends have rubbing, bumping and small nicks and chips, along with a smallish triangular chip missing to the bottom spine end. Two pages, complete. One leaf folded printed on both sides. Paper is very clean and intact. Small chip in upper-left corner and browning or sunning on the back. This flyer advertises a monthly periodical called the American Mercury, which was founded in 1924 by H. L. Mencken (1880-1956). Mencken was the magazine's editor until 1933. The American Mercury was a mainstream magazine aimed at conservative readers. The political stance of the American Mercury remained relatively moderate until the 1950s when it began to publish extreme right-wing beliefs promoting racism and anti-Semetism. The subsequent controversy contributed to the magazine's decline, and it became defunct in 1981.
