Signed on the front free endpaper "with appreciation for his efforts on our behalf - and with best wishes from Tom Eagleton U.S. Senator 1972." Thomas Francis Eagleton (1929-2007) served as U.S. Senator from Missouri from 1968 to 1987. Eagleton was briefly the vice-presidential nominee under Democratic leader George McGovern in 1972; the same year as this book's publication.
