Hard Cover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. First Edition. "An authoritative popular account of the prenatal months of human life, the lore of childbirth through the ages, and the scientific practice of today." Physician & humanist, Guttmacher, then an Associate in Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins, later became Director of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, a Director of Planned Parenthood, and founder of the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals and the Association for the Study of Abortion; the Guttmacher Institute was renamed in his memory in 1977. Hardcover in jacket, as pictured, with a somewhat irresistable association: laid in is a card from Guttmacher's mother to Dr. Joseph Kepecs, seemingly a family friend, reading "Dear Joseph, I trust this volume by one of my favorite authors will interest you. Fond greetings to your Mother & Father and best wishes to you. [signed] Laura O. Guttmacher". Kepecs (1912-2016) was a psychiatrist trained in Chicago, who lectured there in the early sixties, then practiced in Madison, Wisconsin, where he was also a professor at the University of Wisconsin. Book shows some wear, minor discoloration, light bumping; price-clipped jacket rubbed & chipped with internal non-archival tape 'repairs'; endsheets tanned. Text clean; x, [2], 366 pages; index, bibliography, 15 b/w plates & illustrations, as called for. Size: Octavo.
