Mass Market Paperback. Condición: Good. Please see any and all photos connected with this listing. A bit scuffed but all pages intact and legible. Good reading copy. Clean. Store Stamped. --- --- 'It is rather awful, Emma thought as she walked across the fields down to the farm, how this business is leading us all into subterfuge and deception, and we can't really tell who is friend and who is enemy . . . ' Emma wakes up one morning to an apocalyptic world. The cosy existence she shares with her grandmother, a famous retired actress, has been shattered: there's no post, no telephone, no radio - and an American warship sits in the harbour. As the two women piece together clues about the 'friendly' military occupation on their doorstep, family, friends and neighbours gather round to protect their heritage. In this chilling novel of the future, Daphne du Maurier explores the implications of a political, economic and military alliance between Britain and the United States. . .See photos for additional content. . .

Condición: Gut. Lizenzausgabe. 285 (3) Seiten. 21 cm. Sehr guter Zustand. "'I never can make up my mind about nationalism, said her grandmother. 'It's inclined to turn fanatical, and the fanatics make such a point about where one is born. I was born in Wimbledon, and although I used to adore going to the tennis there in old days I wouldn't die for it. In fact, it wouldn't worry me if Wimbledon and all its houses ceased to exist. But I've made this corner of this particular peninsula my home for a long time now, and I'd centainly die for it if I thought it would do any good.'" (from Rule Britannia, 1972). - Dame Daphne du Maurier, DBE (* 13. Mai 1907 in London; 19. 1989 verstarb Daphne du Maurier in Cornwall. .
