Hardcover. Condición: Good. 6 volume set. Bound in green cloth with paper labels on the spine. Bindings are uniformly faded from age and spines are a tone more brown than the boards, but a lovely looking set. Each volume is just under 6 x 8.5 inches. Bindings all tight, corners all sharp. The paper labels are faded from age and with minor chipping at the edges (not affecting lettering) on volumes 5 and 6. Spines say that it's the Edition De Luxe, but I do not see further information on the inside with additional information about the size of the run. Illustrated with frontispiece plates and a few additional plates in the text. Top edges gilt. complete in 6 volumes. Sense and Sensibility (409 pages), Pride and Prejudice (422 pages), Mansfield Park (528 pages), Emma (537 pages), Persuasion & The Watsons (343 pages), Northanger Abbey & Lady Susan (347 pages). Cloth. Condición: Good. No Jacket. H M Brock, C E Brock Ilustrador. A scarce printing of Jane Austen's works in 12 volumes, undated but cited as 1906, with 30 colour plates by H M and C E Brock, 6 further illustrations and a folding facsimile autograph letter. In matching blue cloth bindings with paper labels which state that this edition is the 'Beacon Edition'. Top page edges gilt; remainder untrimmed. It uses some of the Brock plates from an earlier J M Dent/E P Dutton edition first published in 1898, and the prefaces are by Brimley Johnson, who edited that edition. However it also has a substantial introductory piece by Prof. William Lyon Phelps, which appears in the Frank S Holby publications. A fairly large type-face is used - reminiscent of the Winchester Edition. Book size 20 x 14.5 cms. The blue cloth bindings are generally sound and clean with the occasional light mark. There is some wear to the top and bottom of the spines - the degree of wear varies: Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey were clearly most read and have the greatest binding wear. Corners lightly bumped. Internally contents very bright and clean - some volumes are still partly unopened. Some of the pages have quite frayed edges from opening, which has occasionally resulted in some margin (but not text) loss. Each of the novels has a colour frontispiece and 2 further Brock plates per volume - these are tissue-guarded and all the volumes have a title page in red and black and additional half titles were appropriate. Sense and Sensibility Vol I: dedication; bibliography; Jane Austen by William Lyon Phelps; half title; text pp 1-225. Small repaired paper flaw in top margin p 55. Vol II: pp 1-302 - some loss to side margin of p75. Pride and Prejudice Vol I: preface; text pp 3-283. Some very crinkled/nibbled page edges. Vol II: text 3-299. Volume a little shaken and outline of pressed flower in gutter margins of pp 236/7. Emma Vol I: dedication; preface; text 1-399. Some pages unopened. Vol II: 359pp mostly unopened. Mansfield Park Vol I: preface; text 338pp largely unopened. Vol II: 347 pp, largely unopened, one tissue guard detached, side margin p219 with loss and archive tape repair, p 299 slight loss to side margin. Persuasion: preface, text 362pp. Northanger Abbey: advert by 'authoress'; preface; text 338pp. Part unopened. Lady Susan, The Watsons and Letters Vol I: frontispiece portrait of Jane Austen; title page; preface; colour plate - Old Manor House, Steventon; half title Lady Susan and text 107pp; half title The Watsons, preface and text to p195; half title The Letters; introduction by Brabourne; black and white portrait; text to p393. Many pages unopened, corner of p205 re-attached (no text affected), slight split at rear endpaper joint. The Letters Vol II: portrait frontispiece; title page; colour plate Vestibule of 4 Sydney Place, Bath; foldout facsimile autograph letter; text, black and white portrait and appendices 393pp. Please enquire if you would like to see more images to further assess condition.

10 volumes. The Winchester Edition, the First Expanded Edition. 8vo, publisher's original blue cloth lettered and decorated in gilt on spines, t.e.g. A pleasing set with only light age evidence. THE IMPORTANT WINCHESTER EDITION, STILL ONE OF THE MOST DESIRABLE OF ALL COLLECTED EDITIONS OF THE AUTHOR'S WRITINGS. â Recognition came to Miss Austen slowly. But she is now firmly established as an English classic. Miss Austen had always her panegyrists among the best intellects-such as Coleridge, Tennyson,Macaulay, Scott, Sydney Smith, Disraeli and Archbishop Whitely, the last of whom may be said to have been her discoverer. Disraeli read PRIDE AND PREJUDICE seventeen times. Scottâ s testimony is often quoted: â That young lady had a talent for describing the involvements, feelings and characters of ordinary life which is to me the most wonderful I have ever met with. The big bow-wow I can do myself like any one going; but the exquisite touch which renders commonplace things and characters interesting from the truth of the description and the sentiment is denied to me.â â - EB.

Hardcover. Condición: Good. 5 volumes. All uniformly bound with black leather spines and corners, faded sky blue cloth over boards. Raised cords and gold lettering on the spine, with a floral design. Top edges gilt. All 5 volumes have minor wear to the spine and some weakness at the hinges, but overall still attractive and readable. Title pages printed in red and black. No dates on the title page. Copyright pages dated only 1892. Each volume has an engraved frontispiece at the beginning of each book. Marbled endpapers. Sense and Sensibility has about a 4 inch crack at the front hinge. 2 volumes in 1. 250 and 298 pages (with a title page and frontispiece at each). Mansfield Park is also two parts in one volume and has 308 and 310 pages, but Part II does not have its own title page. Pride and Prejudice has 275 and 287 pages. Two title pages and two frontispieces. Hinge repair to the front hinge. The topmost quarter inch of the top margins are a half shade darker than the rest of the pages, which is likely the after-effect of some dampness a century ago. Emma 317 and 315 pages, with separate frontispieces and title pages. Lady Susan & The Watsons & A Memoir. 352 and 333 pages. A compact and attractive set. They were not printed on the highest quality papers, and the leather bindings have suffered from a century of use (some scuffs and weak hinges) but worth considering. Please contact us for photos or with further questions.

Cloth. Condición: Near Fine. None Ilustrador. The handsome Adelphi edition of Jane Austen's works, uniformly bound in the original cloth. The Adelphi edition. Complete in seven volumes. All volumes are first thus, with the exception of 'Mansfield Park', 'Pride and Prejudice', and, 'Lady Susan and The Watsons', which are second impression. Rare to see uniformly bound in the publisher's original full cloth binding with gilt lettering. Each volume is complete with it's half title page. This set comprises of: "Sense and Sensibility", one of Austen's most famous works, this novel follows the lives of the three Dashwood sisters as they are forced to move from their childhood estate, in search of a new home. "Pride and Prejudice", Austen's famous novel of manners. The story follows Elizabeth Bennett as she learns the difference between superficial goodness and genuine goodness. This work is one of the most popular novels in English literature, having sold over twenty million copies worldwide. "Mansfield Park", the third novel by Austen, following the life of Fanny Price. An interesting novel exploring concepts such as religion and slavery. "Emma", set in the fictional village of Highbury, this work explores the youthful drama and romantic misunderstandings of a group of families. "Northanger Abbey", a coming-of-age novel about Catherine Morland, as she journeys to better understand herself. "Persuasion", Austen's final novel, published posthumously. The story follows Anne Elliot whose family rents their home to an admiral and his wife. "Lady Susan and The Watsons", Austen's lesser known works, the short epistolary novel Lady Susan and the abandoned novel The Watsons.
